Ingredients
  • Boneless chicken - 500 Gms, cut into small pieces
  • Black pepper powder - ½ Teaspoon
  • Salt - ½ Teaspoon
  • Water - ¼ cup
  • Egg white - 1 large
  • Mayonnaise as required, optional but recommended
  • Puff pastry as required for 4 breads
  • White sesame seeds as required, optional

For Chicken Filling:

  • Onion, medium sized - 2 Nos, finely sliced
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 2 Teaspoon
  • Green chillies - 2-3 Nos, finely chopped
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig, finely chopped
  • Red chili powder - 1 Teaspoon
  • Black pepper powder - 1 Teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - ⅛ Teaspoon
  • Garam Masala - 1 Teaspoon
  • Butter - 2 Tablespoon
  • Water - 3 Tablespoon
  • Salt to taste
Directions

Initial Preparation:

  1. Thaw the puff pastry sheets as instructed in the package.
  2. Then slightly roll-out the sheets and cut each sheet into 2 parts. Set aside. I used 2 puff pastry sheets for making 4 breads.
  3. Clean and wash the chicken pieces. Drain the water completely.
  4. In a pan, add in the chicken pieces, ½ teaspoon black pepper powder, ½ teaspoon salt and ¼ cup of water.
  5. Mix well, cover and cook until the chicken is cooked well. Stir occasionally.
  6. Then remove the lid and cook until the water content evaporates completely. Stir occasionally.
  7. Remove from heat and let it cool. Then shred the chicken pieces into small pieces and set aside.

Filling Preparation:

  1. Heat butter in a pan, add in the sliced onions and saute until the onions turns translucent.
  2. Then add in the ginger-garlic paste and saute until the raw smell disappears.
  3. Add in the finely chopped green chillies, curry leaves and saute for 1 minute.
  4. Add in the red chilli powder, black pepper powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, salt and saute for 2 minutes on low heat.
  5. Add 3 tablespoons of water and mix well.
  6. Then add in the shredded chicken. Mix well and cook until the water content evaporates completely.
  7. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Divide the filling into 4 equal portions and set aside.

Making Braided Bread (Refer Video):

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Place a piece of parchment sheet on the working surface. Arrange a puff pastry piece on the parchment sheet.
  3. Spread 1-2 tablespoons of mayonnaise lengthwise on the center of the puff pastry sheet.
  4. Place one portion of chicken filling over the mayonnaise and arrange it evenly.
  5. Make slits on the puff pastry sheet diagonally on both sides of the filling. Now start braiding.
  6. Fold one slit over the other alternatively from both sides till the end. Tuck in the ends as well.
  7. Arrange the breads along with parchment paper in a baking tray.
  8. Beat the egg white and brush it on the prepared bread and sprinkle some sesame seeds on top.
  9. Bake for 20 - 25 minutes or until the bread turns medium golden color on top.
  10. Remove from oven and serve warm.
