Ingredients:
  • Beef - 1 Kg, cut into medium size cubes

For Marination:

  • Shallots - 2 cup, sliced
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 3 Tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder - ½ Teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 3 Teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder - ¾ - 1 ½ Tablespoon, adjust according to your spice level
  • Garam Masala - 2 Teaspoon
  • Pepper powder - ½ Teaspoon
  • Fennel seeds, slightly crushed - ½ Tablespoon
  • Lemon Juice - ½ Tablespoon
  • Salt to taste

For cooking Beef:

  • Coconut slices, ½ inch pieces - ¾ cup
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  • Water - ½ cup

For Frying Beef:

  • Curry leaves - 2-3 sprig
  • Shallots - 4-5 Nos, sliced
  • Pepper powder - ½ - 1 Teaspoon, adjust according to your spice level
  • Coconut oil - 2-3 Tablespoon
  • Salt to taste
Instructions:

Initial Preparation:

  1. Clean and wash the beef pieces. Drain the water completely.
  2. In a bowl, add in the beef pieces along with the items mentioned under 'For Marination' and combine well. Set aside for 30 minutes.

Cooking beef:

  1. In a pressure cooker, add in the marinated beef, ½ cup water, coconut slices, curry leaves and combine well.
  2. Pressure cook until the beef is cooked well for about 3-4 whistles. Remove from heat and set aside. Cooking time may vary depends on the type of beef used.
  3. Once the pressure is settled down, open the cooker. Cook until the gravy dries up completely( if there is any excess gravy).

Frying Beef:

  1. Heat 2-3 tablespoon coconut oil in a wide pan, add in the curry leaves and shallots.
  2. Saute until the shallots are translucent. Then add in the cooked beef and mix well.
  3. Fry until the beef pieces becomes dark brown in color over low heat. It will take around 10-15 minutes. Stir periodically. Check for salt.

Notes:

  • If the beef becomes dry while frying, pour little more coconut oil and continue frying.
  • Adjust the quantity of red chilli powder and pepper powder according to your spice level.
  • You can use the same quantity of finely chopped red onions instead of shallots in marination. But the shallots gives an authentic and unique flavor to the fry.
