For Pizza Dough:

  • All-purpose flour - 2 ¾ cup
  • Active Dry Yeast or Rapid Rise Yeast - 1 Envelope or 1 Tablespoon
  • Lukewarm water - approx: 1 cup, refer notes
  • Olive oil or Vegetable oil - 2 Tablespoon
  • Salt - 1 Teaspoon
  • Additional flour for dusting

For Butter Chicken:

  • Boneless chicken - 250-300 Gms , cut into small cubes
  • Onion, medium sized - 1 Nos, finely chopped
  • Tomato Puree - ½ cup, from a large tomato
  • Tomato sauce - 1 Tablespoon
  • Chopped Garlic - 1 ½ Teaspoon
  • Chopped Ginger - 1 Teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - ¼ Teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 2 Teaspoon
  • Kashmiri chilli powder - 1 Teaspoon
  • Garam masala - ½ Teaspoon
  • Kasuri methi ~ Dried fenugreek leaves - ½ Tablespoon, crushed
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Fresh cream - 3 Tablespoon
  • Butter - 3-4 Tablespoon
  • Salt to taste

For Chicken Marination:

  • Turmeric powder - ¼ Teaspoon
  • Kashmiri chilli powder - ¼ Tablespoon
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 ½ Teaspoon
  • Yogurt - ½ Tablespoon
  • Salt - ¼ Teaspoon

For Butter Chicken Pizza Topping:

  • Pizza Sauce - 3 Tablespoon, click to see the recipe
  • Shredded Mozzarella Cheese - 1 - 1 ½ cup, adjust
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese - ½ - ¾ cup, adjust
  • Chopped Onions - ½ - ¾ cup, adjust
  • Chopped Coriander leaves - 2 Tablespoon

Pizza Dough Preparation:

  1. In a bowl, add in the yeast, lukewarm water and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes or until the yeast rise.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add in the flour, salt and combine well.
  3. Pour in 2 tablespoons of oil and ½ of yeast mixture and knead well.
  4. Then add in the rest of yeast mixture and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic, about 6-10 minutes. Shape dough into a ball shape.
  5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a towel and let the dough rise at room temperature until doubled, about 1-2 hours.

Butter Chicken Preparation:

  1. Marinate the chicken pieces with the items listed in 'For Chicken Marination' and refrigerate it for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat butter in a pan, add in the chicken pieces and shallow fry them on medium heat. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.
  3. Add in the the chopped onion in the same pan and fry till golden brown on low-medium heat. Add more butter, if needed.
  4. Add in the chopped ginger, garlic and saute until the raw smell disappears on low-medium heat.
  5. Now add in the turmeric powder, coriander powder, kashmiri chilli powder and saute for 2-3 minutes on low heat.
  6. Remove from heat and let it cool completely. Then grind it to a fine paste by adding little water.
  7. Add this masala paste into the same pan, add in the tomato puree and tomato sauce.
  8. Mix well and cook until the mixture produce bubbles uniformly for about 3-4 minutes.
  9. Add in the shallow fried chicken pieces, kasuri methi, milk and salt.
  10. Mix well and cook until the chicken is done and the gravy is thick over low heat. Stir occasionally. Add little water, if needed.
  11. When the chicken is tender and the gravy becomes thick, add garam masala, fresh cream and stir well.
  12. Remove from heat, take out the chicken pieces from the sauce and keep the chicken pieces and sauce separately.

Pizza Preparation:

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F.
  2. Lightly dust the work surface with flour, place the dough and knead slightly.
  3. Roll the dough to fit your pizza pan, then transfer to the pizza pan, lift the edges of the flattened dough to form a slight rim.
  4. Makes some holes on the pizza crust using a fork. Spread 3 tablespoons of pizza sauce on the pizza crust.
  5. Then spread ½ cup of butter chicken sauce on the pizza crust.
  6. Sprinkle ¾ portion of shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  7. Arrange the butter chicken pieces on the pizza. Spread the chopped onions, cheddar cheese and remaining mozzarella cheese on top.
  8. Sprinkle the chopped coriander leaves and bake for about 12-18 minutes or until the side of the pizza crust is slightly golden and the cheese are completely melted.
  9. The baking time may vary according to the oven model. So check now and then after the first 10 minutes.
  10. Remove from oven and serve after 3-4 minutes.

Yield: Makes a large pizza(14 inch)


  • For Pizza dough: Take 1 cup lukewarm water and remove 2 Tablespoon of water from it. Use the rest of water to soak the yeast. Adding excess water produce bubbles in the crust while baking.
