Ingredients

For Cake Batter

  • All-purpose flour - 2 ½ cup
  • Unsalted butter - 1 cup or 2 stick, at room temperature
  • Granulated sugar - 1 ½ cup
  • Baking powder - 1 Table spoon
  • Milk - ¾ cup
  • Eggs - 4 Nos
  • Vanilla extract - 2 Tablespoon
  • Salt - 1 Teaspoon
  • Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple gel food colouring, as required
  • Vanilla Butter Cream Frosting. (optional)

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Arrange parchment paper in a 9x13 inch baking pan and keep aside.
  3. Get ready with a large mixing bowl and the small bowls(with respect to the number of colours which you are planning to use; I used 6 colours.)

Cake batter Preparation:

  1. Mix together all-purpose flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl.
  2. Beat butter in large mixing bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until softened. Add granulated sugar and vanilla; Beat until light and fluffy.
  3. Add and beat eggs one at a time; Scraping down sides of bowl frequently.
  4. Alternately add flour mixture and milk into this and beat on medium-low speed until mixed; Set aside.

Adding colours:

  1. Devide the vanilla batter equally into the small bowls.
  2. Add few drops of colour to each bowl(add one drop at a time, till you get the preferred colour); Blend nicely. Set aside.

Mixing Procedure:

  1. Now you have the bowls of coloured batter.
  2. Pour the coloured batter alternatively into the pan. (refer pictures)
  3. Cut through the batter using a knife or skewer until it forms a marble layered design.(refer pictures)
  4. Bake the cake for about 35-45 minutes or until a wooden skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Cool completely on a wire rack.

Vanilla Butter Cream Frosting:

  1. Continue with the recipe of Vanilla Butter Cream Frosting and get the frosting.
  2. Spread over the cake and make a generous layer of Vanilla Butter Cream frosting.
  3. Before serving, keep the cake in refrigerator for 30 minutes.
