  • All-purpose flour - 2 ½ cup
  • Cocoa powder - 3 Tablespoon
  • Sugar - 1 ½ cup
  • Salt - 1 Teaspoon
  • Baking soda - 1 Teaspoon
  • Eggs - 2 Nos
  • Buttermilk - 1 cup
  • Vegetable Oil - 1 cup
  • Butter, at room temperature - ½ cup
  • Vanilla extract - 2 Teaspoon
  • Lemon Juice - 1 Teaspoon
  • Red Food coloring - 2 ½ Tablespoon
  • Cream Cheese Frosting or Butter Cream Frosting

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Take three 9" round pan or three 8" round pan or three 8" inch heart shaped cake pans.
  3. Lightly butter the sides of the pans and place parchment paper on the bottom and set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, add all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, salt and mix well.
  5. In another large bowl, whisk together the oil, butter, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, lemon juice, and vanilla.
  6. Add the dry ingredients mixture into the wet ingredients as batches; After each addition, mix well using a electric mixer on medium speed until just combined and smooth.
  7. Divide the cake batter evenly into the prepared pans; Bake until a wooden skewer inserted in the center comes out clean (approx. 30- 55 minutes).
  8. Remove the cake pans from the oven and run a knife around the edges to loosen them from the sides of the pans.
  9. Remove the cakes from pan, transfer to a cooling rack and allow to cool completely.

Frosting the cake:

  1. Place one layer in the middle of a cake stand.
  2. Spread some frosting(approx: ¼ inch thickness) over the top of the cake using a spatula.
  3. Set another layer on top, then spread some frosting on top of the cake.
  4. Top with the remaining layer and cover the whole cake with frosting.
